ECO 6500
The ECO 6500 is a revolutionary multipurpose vessel being developed by ForestWaveNavigation and its partners: Cofely Nederland NV. Heinen & Hopman, SAM Electronics and Groot Ship Design. The vessel is a response to the trends in the shortsea shipping segment, such as reduction of emissions, on-board safety and savings on operational costs. In short, the ECO 6500 is being developed in order to meet the requirements of the future.
Fuel
Fuel represents more than 50% of the operational costs of a vessel. The ECO 6500 has been primarily developed with the objective to minimise fuel consumption. With success: the ECO 6500 consumes 50% less fuel than vessels with a similar deadweight capacity given constant performance.
Emission
In addition to the significant savings on fuel, the ECO 6500 realises a reduction in emissions of 90%. As such, the ECO 6500 has become the new standard in the area of emissions in its class and complies with the environmental requirements that come into effect in 2020. This means that no additional investments will be required during the period the vessel is in service. The green image responds to the demand for ecologically responsible vessels by society.
Tests
A prototype of the vessel has been extensively tested by the maritime HSVA laboratory in Hamburg. These tests have shown that the abovementioned claims are valid.
Development
Currently, a large team of engineers is working on the realisation of the vessels. At the end of 2011 the first of a series of six vessels, the “Forest Navigator”, will be officially put into service.
